Innovator picked for top architecture prize

- Thom Mayne, a daringly progressive architect based in Los Angeles, will receive the 2005 Pritzker Architecture Prize. The award, which carries a $100,000 grant, is considered the design world's equivalent to the Nobel Prize. Mayne, 61, leads the innovative firm Morphosis, which captured public and media attention for the Caltrans District 7 Headquarters and the Science Education Resource Center/Science Center School, both completed last year in Los Angeles.
